Santa Monica Hires ex-FAA to Dispute Flight Paths

California city set to hire former FAA official as lobbyist
The Santa Monica City Council appeared poised on Tuesday to hire a former Federal Aviation Administration official to lobby against proposed changes at the Santa Monica Airport near Los Angeles. Consultant Kirk Shaffer would act on the city’s behalf in disputing a possible change to flight paths at the airport.

According to a City Hall report, Shaffer would attempt “to persuade the agency that the proposed 250-degree heading for piston-powered IFR departures should be reassessed and revised.” Santa Monica Daily Press (Calif.)
