Operations at South Lake Tahoe (TVL) Airport

ATTENTION ALL PILOTS

South Lake Tahoe Airport (TVL) has experienced several incidents of concern since closing the Air Traffic Control Tower (ATCT) on October 1, 2004. In the interest of safety, it is requested that all pilots operating at TVL utilize the Unicom/CTAF frequency to broadcast their intentions.

This airport is unique in that it is surrounded on three sides with high terrain with landing traffic normally utilizing RWY 18 and takeoff traffic utilizing RWY 36.

  • Please broadcast your intentions and look for traffic before entering the traffic pattern or taxiing into position for takeoff.
  • Please utilize your landing lights when in the airport traffic pattern.

If you have any questions or ideas concerning flight safety at TVL please contact Rick Jenkins, interim airport manager, at (530) 542-6182.
