Hollister Airport to Receive FAA Grants

Hollister AirportThe Hollister Airport has been awarded 2.5 million dollars from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to upgrade its runway. The federal funding will allow for the removal of safety hazards. The runway channels were originally constructed in 1942, by the United States Navy and are in dire need of repairs and will be brought up to FAA safety standards. The project will establish a subterranean drainage system on both shoulders of the runway which will increase the safety for all users of Hollister Municipal Airport.

Hollister_flea_marketAt the Board of Supervisors Meeting 2/22/11, the Flea Market proposal was denied on a vote of 3 to 2. At the very start of the meeting, Chair person Margie Barrios stated she was against the proposal. After much discussion, Jaime De LA Cruz wanted a vote now. Margie Barrios then made a motion to deny the application, and seconded by Anthony Botelho.

The vote went as follows – Margie Barrios, Anthony Botelho, Jerry Muenzer – – against Jaime De La Cruz, Robert Rivas – – – for.

Monterey County Airports Receive Federal Funding

Salinas airport received $2.1 million “for the phased reconstruction of parallel Taxiway B,” according to a news release from U.S. Rep. Sam Farr, D-Carmel. The project is necessary to improve the poor condition of the pavement and to meet current standards, Farr said.Other awards: Monterey Peninsula Airport: $2.3 million; Mesa Del Rey Airport (King City): $484,750; Watsonville Municipal Airport: $52,250; Hollister Municipal Airport: $30,000.

Hollister – Airport Land Use Commission Meeting 7/22/10

The county ALUC (Airport Land Use Commission) is meeting Thursday, July 22, at 10 a.m. to consider the Flea market application at the approach end of 31. They are meeting at the county Board of Supervisor chambers at 481 4th Street, Hollister. If you have any concerns regarding this issue, please try to attend the meeting and voice your opinion.
