Calling All Celebs

In previous messages I have talked about the steps I believe need to be taken to protect existing airports (owning the land around them, under the traffic pattern at least, so development can be directed in an aviation-friendly manner). Now I’m going to talk about GA’s more general problem.

Like a vintage Harley, Stearmans hold a dear place in many a pilot’s heart. We are blessed in California to have an association dedicated to keeping the symbols of Golden Age flying alive, and it’s a pleasure to tell you about the Stearman Restorers Association.

Oceanside (OKB): The Oceanside Airport Association continues to make great strides in unifying their pilot population as well as members of the community. At their April 6th BBQ, over 300people turned for the event, co-sponsored by Sea Winds Aviation.

The Electronic Age has planted itself firmly at our doorsteps, and it is time for pilots to fully embrace its capabilitites as a tool to preserve and promote aviation.

On September 13, the following California Assembly Joint Resolution was introduced, the first of its kind for this subject in California’s legislative history. Similar resolutions were drafted in Florida and New York immediately after the September 11th attacks.

In the Jan/Feb 2002 California Pilot, the issue of trees penetrating the 20:1 approach surface at multiple airports cost Siskiyou County the suspension of Caltrans funding to five of its airports. It also cost Dunsmuir Mott and Blue Canyon airports the suspension of their operating permits.
