“Reasonable” Airport Rules
Every owner of a public airport has a duty to adopt and enforce rules and regulations for operation of the airport and for those who use it. These rules and regulations may include minimum standards for persons conducting business on the airport. All rules, regulations and minimum standards must be “reasonable.” Therein lies the potential for disagreement between the airport manager, who represents the airport owner, and the airport users.

80/20 Rule and Aviation

80/20 Rule
Have you heard about the 80/20 rule? It states that 20% of a factor equals 80% of the result. For example, 20% of the work force in the United States excels at 80% of the work. Think about your workplace for a minute. While everyone there participates in doing his or her job, there are a few obvious people who just make things happen. These employees represent the 20% piece of this model, and as a result they are the ones, which are typically more successful. The remaining 80% show up for work, and do their jobs, but they don’t do anything more than what is required of them which is fine, but many often wonder why they are not getting ahead.

Politics And Your Right To Fly

By Bob Littlefield
(Because Bob Littlefield is a Scottsdale City Councilman, general aviation pilot and flight instructor, his observations and suggestions are as instructive in California as in Arizona. Ed.)
If you have been paying attention to the news in Arizona you know that the hottest aviation-related topic amongst the non-flying public in our area is complaints about aircraft noise and over flights. Phoenix Sky Harbor, Scottsdale, Chandler, Sedona and Payson airports have all had to battle complaints from residents who claim that aircraft using these airports create unacceptable levels of noise that disturb their lives. Luke AFB, Williams-Gateway Airport and Stellar Airpark are fighting to prevent nearby residential development that could eventually restrict their operations or even force their closure. And even in the sparsely populated rural areas near Prescott residents concerned about aircraft noise have delayed plans to build a satellite-training airport for Embry-Riddle.
