Caltrans: Santa Paula Airport remains closed to air traffic
A state inspection Monday has kept the Santa Paula Airport closed, disappointing news on top of the storm damage that destroyed part of the facility’s lone runway.

A state inspection Monday has kept the Santa Paula Airport closed, disappointing news on top of the storm damage that destroyed part of the facility’s lone runway. Rowena Mason, president of the Santa Paula Airport Association, had expected the recreational airfield to be allowed to open Monday, but Caltrans, the lead agency for the runway issue, balked at reopening the historic airport to traffic.

$2 million Fox Airfield project gets county’s OK

LANCASTER – Los Angeles County supervisors on Tuesday approved a $2 million project to improve the ground surface at Gen. William J. Fox Airfield. The project falls within the airport’s master plan for improvement and upgrades, which was approved by the Board of Supervisors in 1996.

The only traffic at Santa Paula Airport on Saturday was a noisy ultra-light aircraft that buzzed the damaged airfield several times before flying away over the Santa Clara River towards Fillmore. Santa Paula aviators were keeping a wary eye on the sky and the river after raging waters last week eroded the bank about halfway into the western end of the single runway of the world famous airport.

Tenants and businesses at the Corona (California) Municipal Airport are now six weeks post-flood and while the floodwaters have receded, the west end of the field is still without electrical power, reports EAA member Patrick Brunner. ?Many of the businesses are still not operational, having lost all tools and equipment to the waters and mud left behind,? he said.
