UPLAND – Mike Lompart isn’t going to say I told you so, but … The retired airline pilot said people have argued for years against development they say is too close to Cable Airport. The Alta Loma man said Monday’s crash of a Piper Seneca twin-engine plane into three houses about three blocks east of Cable clearly demonstrates the importance of having an airport buffer zone.

SLO airport should fly solo, county grand jury suggests Breaking off from county General Services would remove a layer of bureaucracy that could help the airport become more efficient, jurors say By Bob Cuddy The San Luis Obispo (CA) Tribune The county civil grand jury has suggested that San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport consider becoming independent to give it the flexibility it needs to deal with rapid changes in the aviation world. The suggestion is hypothetical. The grand jury gives no examples of a specific operation that would work better under such independence.

County to loan SLO airport $10M; repayment expected

The Board of Supervisors will loan $10 million to the San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport for construction of a $15-million covered parking structure, but how the money will be repaid remains to be seen. With a 5-0 vote during a special meeting Tuesday, the supervisors approved the loan, opting not to “give” the money to the airport, and directed staff to return with a repayment plan.
