FAA to Study Fullerton Radio Tower Risk

FULLERTON – The Federal Aviation Administration has agreed to further study whether a reconstructed radio tower would threaten the safety of pilots flying in and out of Fullerton Municipal Airport. The previous tower at the La Mirada site less than two miles northwest of the airport was toppled and destroyed in 2004 when a small plane slammed into it, killing the pilot and his wife.

NAPA – Former Vallejo resident Martin Pehl’s career has taken flight with his recent appointment as head of the Napa County Airport. As airport manager, the 38-year-old Pehl is responsible for operations and maintenance of the 830-acre facility that is home base for 254 aircraft and several businesses including Bridgeford Flying Services and the Japan Airlines pilot training center. His list of projects also includes updating the airport’s master plan, which covers projects spanning the next 20 years, and investigating the possibility of purchasing Angwin Airport from Pacific Union College.
