Class of 2015 for California Aviation Hall of Fame named
SANTA MONICA, Calif. — The Museum of Flying will host the induction into the California Aviation Hall of Fame of Iris Cummings Critchell, Lt. Col Fitzhugh “Fitz” Fulton, Robert J. “Bob” Gilliland, and Burt Rutan on Saturday, April 25. The Museum of Flying has confirmed the attendance of Critchell, Gilliland, and Rutan.

The city of San Luis Obispo is following the right course in standing by its decision to allow residential development in the airport area at the south end of town, over objections of the county Airport Land Use Commission and Caltrans’ Division of Aeronautics.

Whether you’re looking for the best in comfort food or some friendly competition, the Weekender found fly-ins on SocialFlight with a bit of everything. Pulled pork and bratwurst sandwiches for lunch, burritos for breakfast and live music will be featured at EAA Chapter 484’s Calaveras Air Fair on Saturday in San Andreas, California. Enjoy classic car and static aircraft displays and airplane rides too.
Also in California, EAA 1027 will host its fifth annual Boonville Spring Fly-In on Sunday April 18th. Those who fly in will enjoy the airport’s newly widened and resurfaced runway. The chapter will offer another great barbecue with all the trimmings, dessert and beverages. Free certificates of display will go to those who take part in the Historical Aircraft program. You could leave with cash too, if you enter the 50/50 drawing.
Mojave Fly-In Set For April
It’s not the biggest aviation event around, but the Mojave Experimental Fly-In, coming up April 17-19, is surely one of the most unique. The two-day event brings out homebuilders who have been working on their own designs over the last year, to show off their work and share their expertise in the California desert. This is the fourth year of the fly-in, and this year’s edition adds a slumber party complete with pizza and movies, a “bug-smasher poker run/flour bomb” event, an indoor free-flight RC flying competition, and showings of an in-progress documentary film about the Mojave pilots.
Hayward Air Rally
The Hayward Air Rally is celebrating its 51st anniversary in 2015 with a one day Air Rally to Bend Oregon.
Over the 50 year history of the Hayward Air Rally, originally known as the Hayward-Las Vegas Air Race, the event has been a single day of flying and competition. The exception was the 2014 50th anniversary flight to Oshkosh, which took three days.

The Santa Monica City Council has shortened ground leases for tenants at Santa Monica Municipal Airport (KSMO), limiting most businesses to month-to-month leases.
Exceptions were FBO Atlantic Aviation, Adelman, a law firm, and the Museum of Flying, which received three-year leases to June 30, 2018, with the option of one-year extensions at the discretion of the city.

FAA Proposes List of Approaches to Be Removed T
On April 13, 2015, the FAA issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) that contains a list of 736 redundant or underutilized VOR and NDB standard instrument approach procedures that have been identified for cancellation. The complexity and cost to the FAA of maintaining the ground based equipment for these approaches while expanding the new area navigation (RNAV) capability is not sustainable. To view the list of approaches slated for elimination, go to www.faa.gov/air_traffic/flight_info/aeronav/procedures/reports/ or go to the Federal Register notice. Comments may be submitted on or before May 28, 2015.
