AOPA's Fuller Calls for United Front

Fuller, other international leaders call for united front

Collaboration among aviation groups has proven effective in the United States and it can help strengthen general aviation in Europe too, international officials declared during the first day of the AERO 2010 aviation show in Friedrichshafen, Germany. AOPA President Craig Fuller reminded attendees at a press conference sponsored by the General Aviation Manufacturers Association that collaboration helped present a united front against user fees in the United States, causing the notion to be withdrawn from consideration for probably at least two years.

We agree with Craig Fuller’s comments entirely. Please read our FAQ below. CALPILOTS has been calling for a three tiered approach to protecting our GA airports.

Q: Why should I join the California Plots Association, since I already belong to one or more national aviation organizations such as AOPA, EAA, 99’s or NBAA?

A:
The short answer is that while the national aviation organizations all do an admirable job, they can no longer do it all. The issues surrounding our general aviation airports are increasing. We believe that every aviation enthusiast, pilot or not, should belong to the aviation organizations at the local, statewide and national levels. We believe that each of us has to do more to protect our general aviation airports. We call it the “Three Tiered Defense” – Local – Statewide – and National. All three tiers need to work together to accomplish the goal. This is only beginning to happen. Further, we have to change our mind sets to understand that we can no longer protect our airports by writing a check to one of the national aviation organizations. It is now imperative that all get involved. Each of us can do something to help, no matter how small.
