To keep up with the latest flight training theories and techniques, FAA issued changes to several of its pilot handbooks. One of the biggest changes came with the new Aviation Instructor’s Handbook (FAA-H-8083-9A), available online here. It now includes information on scenario-based training (SBT), a training system that teaches concepts and maneuvers in a “real-world” context, as well as updated guidance on teacher-student assessment. For more information on these handbook updates, as well as other technology-inspired developments, check out the March/April 2009 issue of FAA Aviation News at: http://www.faa.gov/news/aviation_news/.
