Safety projects finished at Santa Barbara Airport
The Associated Press
SANTA BARBARA, Calif.-A $35 million safety improvement project has been completed at Santa Barbara Municipal Airport. The main runway has been shifted 800 feet to the west and a 1,000-foot safety overrun area has been constructed at the ends of the runway. The project brought the airport into compliance with Federal Aviation Administration safety guidelines.
Airport director Karen Ramsdell celebrated completion during a Thursday ribbon-cutting, saying the “project increases the safety for the traveling public.”
The airport also redirected two creeks and created about 30 acres of natural habitat, an area that will eventually be expanded to 40 acres.
