Castle Airport currently has 5000-7000 annual operations. After the addition of two flight schools within the last six months, I conservatively estimate the traffic increase to over 350,000 annual operations. Consequently, the mindset of everyone flying into Castle has to become more professional and safety-conscious. We have had several “close calls”, angered pilots, scared students, one FAA enforcement action. I have been working very hard with the flight schools to develop standard procedures. We are doing everything possible to keep flight operations safe, keep our FBO in business by not discouraging outside flights into Castle, promoting aviation.
Also, due to huge bleed-over on our radio frequency, we are moving toward changing that frequency. We are working very hard to gain the funds necessary ($750K) to re-outfit the tower and put it back into operation. I’m also working with others in the FAA to install a radio at Castle to enable my pilots to get FAA IFR clearances on the ground.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
