Van Nuys Airport Holds Public Scoping Meeting Regarding Proposed Phaseout of Noisier Aircraft
VAN NUYS, CA–
(Marketwire – November 01, 2007) –
On Thursday, November 15, starting at 6 p.m., the Van Nuys Airport (VNY) will hold a scoping meeting associated with the Focused Environmental Impact Report (EIR) that the airport is preparing for the proposed noisier aircraft phaseout ordinance at VNY. The Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), a division of the City of Los Angeles that owns and operates VNY, has determined that an EIR is required to evaluate the potential impacts associated with the proposed phaseout.
“This meeting is designed to gain input from airport users and operators as well as provide opportunities for citizens to individually express their concerns. It also allows for interested parties to learn more about the EIR process,” said Van Nuys Airport Manager Selena Birk. According to Bob Holden, LAWA project manager, “The focus of this meeting is on the proposed phaseout, which is separate and distinct from the Part 161 project that is ongoing at VNY. This scoping meeting is not intended to address the Part 161 project, which is studying other possible noise reduction measures.”
The scoping meeting is open to all interested parties. It will be held between 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. at the Airtel Plaza Hotel, 7277 Valjean Avenue, Van Nuys, California 91406 in the Gulfstream Ballroom. Parking will be validated. The meeting will be in “workshop” format, so that interested parties can attend any time during the two and a half hour session. LAWA representatives and consultants will be available to brief attendees on the proposed project and the EIR process as well as to solicit input on the content of the EIR. Forms will be provided at the meeting for use in providing written input on the scope of the EIR; the forms may be completed and handed in at the meeting or returned by mail. The comment period on the EIR scope ends on November 30, 2007; comments must be received by that date to be considered in the scoping process.
The public is invited to stay informed regarding the phaseout study and related process by visiting the study website at www.lawa.org/vny/vnyEnvironment.cfm. The Notice of Preparation (NOP) associated with the EIR has been developed and is available on the website or by calling Karen Hoo, LAWA Environmental Planning, at (310) 646-3853.
The AirTel Plaza Hotel is an accessible facility. For special accommodations at any meeting associated with this EIR, please contact the Department on Disability at (213) 485-6334 at least 72 hours prior to the meeting. TDD is (213) 485-5034. A Spanish speaking translator will be available at the scoping meeting.
