Rialto Municipal Airport Planning

Dear General Aviation Community:
Because of your strong interest, expertise, and involvement in the general aviation field, the City of Rialto cordially invites you to participate in a series of public workshops to discuss the future of the Rialto Municipal Airport. The City recently completed Phase I of the Rialto Municipal Airport Asset Strategy, which concluded that the Rialto Airport currently operates significantly below its capacity and has limited growth potential in the foreseeable future. Because the Airport imposes a significant financial burden upon the City, the Phase I report recommended that the City evaluate two development options to reduce this financial burden upon the City. The two development options being studied are:
(1) Scale back the Airport?s current configuration to its pre-1992 runway configuration and encourage the development of approximately 200 acres of excess lands no longer deemed necessary for airport operations, and
(2) Relocate the airport operations to a nearby facility and encourage the redevelopment of some 453 acres of Airport property to alternate land uses.

Obviously, both options involve serious implications for the City and the general aviation community. As such, the City Council has commissioned Phase II of the Airport Asset Strategy to solicit input from residents and the general aviation interests regarding the future of the Airport.

Toward that end, two public workshops are scheduled to occur in January as noted below:

  • Wednesday, January 12, 2005 at 6:00 pm – Rialto citizens and community groups
  • Thursday, January 20, 2005 at 6:00 pm – General Aviation community.

Both of these workshops will be held at the City Council Chambers located at 150 S. Palm Avenue, Rialto, California 92376.

We especially seek your attendance at the January 20th general aviation community workshop. At this workshop, we will present an overview of the findings from the Phase I report, answer your questions regarding the Airport?s current financial situation, discuss your concerns regarding the options being considered, and engage in a dialogue on how best to reconcile the interests of the citizens of Rialto and the members of the general aviation community regarding the future of the Airport.

If you have any questions regarding the Airport, the development options being considered or want additional information about the Airport Asset Strategy – Phase I Report, please contact Greg Lantz, Economic Development Manager, at (909) 879-1150 or [email protected].

    Sincerely,

    Grace Vargas
    Mayor
