SB 619 – Flight Training Exemption Bill Signed
After making a huge mistake by eliminating the AB48 exemption for all of the state’s flight schools and instructors, the legislator passed this corrective bill and the governor signed it. We appreciate their work to correct this mistake.

Temporary Relief For Flight Training Operations Passed Thursday – The California Legislature on Thursday passed SB 856, a bill that, among its other provisions, will provide a delay in compliance with regulations issued by the California Bureau of Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE) pursuant to AB 48, Chapter 310, Statues of 2009 as they apply to flight training operations. SB 856 is now headed to Governor Schwarzenegger’s desk for his signature.

California Senate Bill 619, aimed at alleviating the requirements for flight schools under the California Private Postsecondary Education Act of 2009, was introduced Feb. 18. Under the current terms of the bill, all individual flight instructors and flight schools that don’t collect money up front for flight training would be exempt from the provisions of the postsecondary act.

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed (CA) Senate Bill 856 (SB 856) into law. SB 856 is a budget trailer bill to the California budget which contains language providing a delay in compliance for flight training facilities with the regulations issued by the Bureau of Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE).
