On Feb 21, 2004 a group consisting of users of the Compton/Woodley Airport met and decided to organize. Their plan is for a minimal number of meetings (two a year) unless the membership wants additional meetings. Also, to run a “no dues” operation, it will depend on electronic communication so as to eliminate paperwork and postage A month ago, a pilot was killed at the airport when a training helicopter auto rotated and did a power recovery over the small airplane — causing the airplane to crash. This was the prime motivating factor in getting the airports users together. A discussion of what can be done to increase safety, in the mix of helicopter and airplane operations at this non-towered airport, is the first goal of this organization.
Jack Kenton, the CPA representative for the airport, is the contact point for the group.
