Plan to expand Livermore Aiport put on hold

LIVERMORE, Calif. A plan to expand Livermore Municipal Airport has been put on hold after nearly one-thousand people showed up to complain. After a Monday meeting that lasted until midnight — city council members voted unanimously to scrap the current Livermore Airport Master Plan that’s been in place since 1999.
The plan was to lengthen one of two runways, add hangars and lease space to businesses catering to corporate jet users.
The airport is the fourth-busiest in the Bay Area, behind Oakland, San Francisco and San Jose.
Supporters say an expanded airport would bring business to the area and pump more money into the booming economy.
But opponents say a projected 44 percent increase in flights by 2020 will also increase noise.
