The City of Watsonville has created a loophole so they can still plan for high-density housing off the end of runway 26, the second most used runway at Watsonville. On April 12th the City Development people got Council approval to classify the east-west runway 8-26 a “low activity runway.”

Fresno airport splits duties
Firefighters, police officers to perform separate tasks.

Starting Oct. 1, firefighters and police at Fresno Yosemite International Airport will have separate duties for the first time in more than 20 years.

Four more airports have been added to the Military Airport Program, the Department of Transportation said last week. The program provides federal funds to improve facilities at ex-military fields to attract more civilian aviation activity. The new airports are Williams Gateway Airport, Mesa, Ariz.; Cecil Field, Jacksonville, Fla.; Guam International Airport, Agana, Guam; and Rickenbacker International Airport, Columbus, Ohio. “These airports are proof-positive that there is life after base closings,” said Transportation Secretary Norm Mineta.

Survey will poll community on airport’s future
A research group will ask local residents their opinions on the future of the Truckee airport

If you’ve got a burning opinion on what the Truckee Tahoe Airport should look like in 20, 30 or 50 years, just wait for the phone to ring. Within the next few months a research group hired by the Truckee Tahoe Airport District will be asking people for their opinions on the future of the airport in telephone interviews. The results will be used by the airport board to build a new vision statement for the airport, and eventually overhaul the district’s business plan.

The City of Tulare has approved a trucking terminal in the safety zone of Runway 13 of the Tulare Airport. Knight Transportation Corporation is in the final construction phase of a large terminal building supported by large above ground fuel tanks and a large collection pond. Airport search hits the road

The search for a new airport to serve the San Diego region is hitting the road. On Thursday, the first in a series of town hall meetings that will take place between this week and the fall convenes at 6:30 p.m. at the East County Performing Arts Center in El Cajon.

AOPA California Regional Representative John Pfeifer testified Wednesday before the Senate Education Committee in support of Assembly Bill 1358, which would impose the same requirements on charter schools that currently apply to public schools by requiring charter schools to notify (in writing) Caltrans Aeronautics, if they are planning to acquire a new school site within two miles of an airport runway.
