The City of Tulare has approved a trucking terminal in the safety zone of Runway 13 of the Tulare Airport. Knight Transportation Corporation is in the final construction phase of a large terminal building supported by large above ground fuel tanks and a large collection pond. A safety inspector from the Caltrans Division of Aeronautics has advised the City that it may be necessary for safety purposes to prohibit landings on Runway 13 and takeoffs on Runway 31. The California Pilots Association has filed a lawsuit to require the City of Tulare and Knight Transportation to remove the building, the fuel tanks and the collection pond. Judge Patrick O’Hara has set July 22 for a hearing on the lawsuit.
