More passengers than ever are flocking to the Fresno Yosemite International Airport. The airport is enjoying a boom in passengers and they said 50% of flyers are business and the other half are leisure.
Passenger levels have increased significantly over the first six months this year. The months of January, March and May were all up from last year by 11% and June had the second highest passenger count ever with more than 130,000 passengers. The airport attributes the boost to various factors.
“Allegiant Air introduced certain service to Hawaii last summer and this summer they’ve actually added a second flight due to the high demand,” said Vikkie Calderon with the Yosemite International Airport. Their international flight to Mexico is also doing well. They’ve added extra weekend flights to Vegas and Alaska Air has also added non-stop flights to San Diego.
We caught Ashlee Pedro as she was flying out to Las Vegas with a group of friends. She believes flying has just become the more comfortable and convenient way to get from point A to B. “Oh yeah, yeah. We went last year in October and the drive was…it’s a lot nicer to fly,” said Pedro.
Because of the high volume of traffic, airport authorities urge you to come in at least two hours before your scheduled flight to leave time to check-in and get through security.
