Public meeting planned on airport projects – The upcoming $53.8 million runway extension and safety project at Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport will be the topic of a public meeting Monday at the Windsor Town Hall.
The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. in the Town Council Chambers.
Scheduling for the project set to break ground early next month will be discussed as well as construction impacts such as noise and traffic, North County Supervisor Mike McGuire said.
Some night work is expected, he said.
Airport staff, the contractor and a consultant will describe the project and take questions from the public, McGuire said.
“We’re not going to leave until folks have their questions answered,” McGuire said.
The project is part of a federal mandate to make airports safer. It will de-couple the two existing runways and extend the main runway by 855 feet to the north.
Construction is expected to be completed by October or November of 2014, McGuire said.
The longer runway will make it possible for regional jets to service the airport, McGuire said.
