Solution to Ontario's and San Diego's airport problems

Commentary – – As San Diego evolved from a sleepy Navy town into a big city with tourism, its major industry, its waterfront airport, became woefully inadequate.
With a single and relatively short runway, Lindbergh Field cannot handle larger, transoceanic jets. But even if it could, its jam-packed terminals can’t adequately process current passengers. The airport has maxed out at just under 17 million passengers a year and can’t tolerate any more planes or bodies.
Oceanside Airport Gets improvements

Oceanside’s airport to get long-awaited improvements – OCEANSIDE – After a two-year lawsuit over land use, Oceanside is moving ahead with its new master plan for the Bob Maxwell Memorial Airfield.
The yearlong process of updating the plan began earlier this year in March. The last plan was adopted in 1994.
At an open house meeting on Wednesday, officials introduced the preliminary outline to the public at the Oceanside Public Library.

Monterey airport settlement clears way for runway project Monterey: Service road will no longer connect to highway – The Monterey Peninsula Airport District agreed to a settlement with its environmental rivals Wednesday night, fast-tracking the construction of a $46 million runway extension project after two years of legal battles.
The settlement with the Highway 68 Coalition eliminates the fought-over construction of a road that would have connected to Monterey-Salinas Highway.

Landowners, Sonoma County settle airport expansion lawsuit

Sonoma County officials have agreed to pay $815,000 for a family’s property next to the Charles M. Schulz airport for a runway extension project, settling the contentious case on the eve of trial.
The amount is roughly twice the total of what the county previously offered to pay for the land, along with the relocation expenses for the 73-year-old matriarch who lives there.
New Terminal Planned for San Luis Obispo Airport

Plan for new terminal at SLO airport moves forward – San Luis Obispo County supervisors Tuesday authorized completing the design of a new terminal at the regional airport in San Luis Obispo even as the county’s airport services department faces an uncertain budget over the next five years
Supervisors held a wide-ranging discussion of the future of the airport, including its passenger terminal, which was described as functional but too small. Business leaders in San Luis Obispo are urging the county to expand services at the airport to attract and maintain businesses to the area.
Airline Service Increases at Fresno Yosemite Int'l Airport

More passengers than ever are flocking to the Fresno Yosemite International Airport. The airport is enjoying a boom in passengers and they said 50% of flyers are business and the other half are leisure.
Passenger levels have increased significantly over the first six months this year. The months of January, March and May were all up from last year by 11% and June had the second highest passenger count ever with more than 130,000 passengers. The airport attributes the boost to various factors.

The fire company at the Chico Municipal Airport is closed as of 8 a.m. today, Fire Chief James Beery announced Monday afternoon. The closure will not disrupt commercial flights, however, as a Federal Aviation Administration-certified fire officer will be assigned to the station, thus meeting FAA requirements.

The Santa Maria Public Airport is upping its ante in the game to land commercial passenger service to a Midwest hub.
The airport has enhanced its Airlines Support Program in hope of enticing a carrier to land here. A combination of rent, landing fee and fuel flowage waivers creates approximately $1 million in incentives to prospective airlines.
