Ten Months Traffic Peaks at FYIA
Press Release

Fresno, CA – Strong summer passenger numbers have contributed to what will be a stellar year of travel at Fresno Yosemite International Airport. With 74,051 more passengers flowing through the airline gates so far in 2004 than the same ten month period in 2003, FYIA is on track for the best year in the Airports history. Notwithstanding the current financial difficulties in the aviation industry, the concern over high fuel costs and new security mandates at airports across the nation, this year the number of Fresno’s travelers has comfortably surpassed those passengers who flew FYI in 2003 by 8.3%. During that same ten month period, the increase in traffic nationwide was 5.7%.

There is a renewed emphasis on the value and convenience of using Fresno Yosemite International Airport, noted Director of Aviation, Russ Widmar. With the focus on tourism throughout the San Joaquin Valley, the economic stimulus provided by FYI in the regional community fits well with the goals outlined in the Regional Jobs Initiative.

FYI continues its efforts to attract and improve air service. Seven carriers currently offer Valley passengers 45 daily departures from Fresno. FYIA is a municipally owned entity operating as a self-supporting enterprise. No City of Fresno general funds are used to operate the Fresno Yosemite International Airport.
