Stillwater — A Federal Aviation Administration report says Stillwater Regional Airport is the third-fastest growing general aviation airport in the nation. The report says the number of take-offs and landings at the airport increased by nearly 139% from 2002 to 2003.
Airport director Gary Johnson says the growth is due to an increase in students in Oklahoma State University’s Flight Training School and an increase in corporate flights. Johnson says another reason is jets from nearby Vance Air Force Base are using the Stillwater airport because of runway construction at Vance.
The report for general aviation airports doesn’t include commercial airports such as Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City and Tulsa International Airport.
