Work on landing system blamed for delays at Arcata-Eureka Airport
The Associated Press

McKINLEYVILLE, Calif. Work on improving the landing system at Arcata-Eureka Airport is being blamed for recent cancellations and delays at the airport. Technical glitches and foggy weather has forced officials to cancel some flights during the past few days.

The airport’s manager confirms that some of the problems were tied to efforts to upgrade the airport’s landing system.

The Federal Aviation Administration is installing new antennas at the airport. They’ll help guide incoming planes to the runway when visibility is poor.

Because not all the antennas are up and running, planes aren’t able to land when the weather turns foggy.

Political humorist Bill Maher was scheduled to perform at Humboldt State University on Sunday, but his show was canceled when his charter plane couldn’t land at the airport.
