NBAA Joins NATA In Opposing Legislation to Limit Free WX Info to Pilots

No title NBAA Chairman and CEO Ed Bolen recently joined National Air Transportation Association (NATA) President Jim Coyne in sending a letter expressing strong opposition to pending Senate legislation that would prohibit the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the National Weather Service (NWS) from providing weather reports, forecasting and data collection services free of charge to the public. As introduced, S. 78 (The National Weather Services Duties Act of 2005) would prohibit NOAA and NWS from offering no-cost weather and related services to the public if the services are offered by a private company.

The bill was sponsored by U.S. Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA).

The letter sent by NBAA and NATA opposing the proposal was sent to both the chairman and the ranking minority member of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation. No hearings have been scheduled on the legislation, and NBAA continues to closely monitor the issue.
