Sacramento Airport (SMF) Lands Millions in Expansion Funds

Sacramento International Airport has received an $8 million grant from the Federal Aviation Administration to help finance recent expansion, Rep. Doris Matsui announced Thursday.

The funds are this year’s portion of a multiyear $60 million package federal officials committed to the airport and helps pay debt tied to new apron areas for jets.

“The Sacramento International Airport is vital to our region’s economic vitality, and these funds are part of a larger partnership with the Federal Aviation Administration to ensure (the airport) can meet current and future air travel demands,” Matsui said.

The $1 billion Terminal B, which opened in October, replacing old Terminal B, was the largest capital improvement project in Sacramento County history.

It is largely financed through debt, paid for by airline fees, passenger ticket surcharges, parking revenue, airport business rents and federal grants.
