Burbank, Calif., council to try again for airport pact

BURBANK, Calif. — After meeting seven hours on a proposal to govern future development at Bob Hope Airport, the City Council failed to reach agreement early Wednesday and will try again next week.

While the flood waters have receded, the silt left behind from the flood at the Corona Airport remains. Many hangars on the West End of the field were more than 10 foot underwater. Silt, in some areas reaching 8-10 inches, covers everything. Water, electric and sewer have been non-existent since January 11. City crews are working to get water and sewer back on-line, with hopes of achieving this goal by Friday, January 21.

AOPA yesterday filed a freedom of information request with the City of Rialto, California, challenging plans to downsize or close Art Scholl Memorial/Rialto Municipal Airport.

One problem with Airbus’ new A380: It pushes the envelope on maximum size for a commercial airplane.

The San Diego Aerospace Museum today announced it would be adding a rare Boeing FB-5 fighter to its displays. Museum Vice President for Operations John Bolthouse stated that the aircraft, owned by George Rice of Monroe, Utah, will be on loan to the Museum for one year, with its status beyond that to be determined at a future date.

The FAA is developing a rule that would require all pilots to obtain a plastic pilot certificate within two years.

Council wants to convert El Toro into regional airport

LOS ANGELES – Despite an outcry from Orange County officials, the City Council passed a resolution Tuesday calling for the former El Toro Marine Air Base to be converted into a regional airport that would take some of the pressure off Los Angeles International Airport.
