Another county hat for Birdsall

You might call him the busiest man in the county.

The man whose name adorns every gas pump in the Valley now has another job after receiving the nod by the county Board of Supervisors this week.

Since purchasing Flabob airport in 2000, the Thomas Wathen Foundation has initiated a number of upgrades and refinements to the airport.

The chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee says the FAA should consider wresting control of Buchanan Field (CCR) from Contra Costa County unless the county abandons its efforts to close the airport. In a letter to FAA Administrator Marion Blakey, Rep. Don Young (R-Alaska) wrote that continuing efforts to close the airport, while at the same time spending federal dollars to study expanding it, are “inconsistent and wasteful.”

County To Rezone Little River Airport

Last Thursday the county Planning Commission recommended approval, as stated in the staff report, to the Board of Supervisors of a request to rezone the airport planning areas of the Ocean Ridge and Little River airports.

MARTINEZ — The Contra Costa Board of Supervisors is poised Tuesday to take the first step of exploring a controversial venture by calling for developers to submit plans to redevelop Buchanan Field in Concord.

I would like to report on our fifth annual airport open house. We accepted donations for 160 airplane rides, 50 helicopter rides, and 30 Stearman rides.

City Swaps Tower Fee For Airport Landing Fee

A decision on the future of Lake Tahoe Airport stalled in midair Tuesday, as the City Council scratched its plan to implement a tower fee and proposed raising landing fees for larger planes instead.
