Contract OK’d for first phase of airport runway expansion

Work is expected to begin this fall on a long-awaited runway extension project at Santa Maria Public Airport.

It is respectfully requested that the Airport Land Use Commission (ALUC) meet to further discuss the proposed zoning changers for the community area in the vicinity of the Nut Tree Airport.

By now, most pilots have heard of the events surrounding John and Martha King’s run-in with the aviation security system. But that’s nothing, warns John Hyle, in an editorial on AVweb, who says that a number of proposals coming down the pike from the Transportation Security Administration show that the federal government has declared pilots the enemy.

Some feel S.J. getting bad end of energy plant deal

TRACY – A natural gas power plant proposed for just outside San Joaquin County would be justified in part by reductions in pollution from a facility in Santa Clara, far from the smoggy Valley.The 200-megawatt “peaker” plant, meant to help satisfy California’s peak energy demands, could emit up to 46 tons per year of smog-forming chemicals, according to a report released this week.To offset that pollution, developers of the Mariposa Energy Project would obtain credits from a facility which has decreased its own emissions – a kind of trade.
