Officials at the Town of Apple Valley are sure that taking control of the county-run airport in the town’s boundaries is a sure-fire way to achieve these long-term goals. But some San Bernardino County officials aren’t convinced yet as some on an advisory panel, hand-picked by First District Supervisor Bill Postmus, asked for specifics as to how the town’s ownership of the airport will provide economic prosperity.

I am writing about a proposal that has been put forth by Supervisor Mark DeSaulnier to spend $50,000 on a study aimed at supporting an alternate use for land on which Buchanan Field Airport is situated. Court Thwarts Attempt by City Voters to Impose Restrictions on Operation and Use

What happened? The Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority (“Airport Authority”) just won a legal case after the voters in the City of Burbank tried to impose a number of procedural obstacles and specific restrictions on the operation and improvement of Burbank Airport (soon to renamed “Bob Hope Airport”). An appellate court in Los Angeles, however, found them to be illegal and therefore refused to enforce them.

New fees at Torrance–Are they legal?

I rent a hangar from the City of Torrance at their airport. On May 13 of this year, the City Council voted to charge $50-$500 for inspections by the Fire Department. The money derived will go into the general fund. Prior to May 13, 2003, the Hangar Fire Department Inspection, (required by our Hangar Leases), was provided by the Torrance Fire Department without charge.
