AOPA's Fuller Calls for United Front

Fuller, other international leaders call for united front

Collaboration among aviation groups has proven effective in the United States and it can help strengthen general aviation in Europe too, international officials declared during the first day of the AERO 2010 aviation show in Friedrichshafen, Germany. AOPA President Craig Fuller reminded attendees at a press conference sponsored by the General Aviation Manufacturers Association that collaboration helped present a united front against user fees in the United States, causing the notion to be withdrawn from consideration for probably at least two years.

EAA states issues with new FAA Airport Compliance Manual

Standing up For Fliers’ Rights

April 1, 2010 — With a keen focus on defending its members’ rights and affordable access to public airports, EAA submitted official comments to the FAA’s massive new Airport Compliance Manual (FAA Order 5190.6B) this week. Randy Hansen, EAA government relations director, authored EAA’s 45-page response to the FAA’s 691-page Airport Compliance Manual. “Ensuring affordability and reducing complexity and difficulty for our members to participate in their passion – aviation – is the thrust behind our official comments,” he said.

Douthitt Airport Threatened by Development

An El Central Land developer and possibly Vallero Oil has their eyes on shutting down Douthitt Airport. Named for Bob Douthitt, it is a small historic special use airfield in Southern California. Located in El Central, Douthitt is rumored to be Mecca for Navion aircraft owners. Bob Douthitt Jr. will have a battle on his hands to prevent loosing a historic airport.
